The Carl MacKinnon Memorial Scholarship is a $1,000 annual award for a graduating student whose life has been affected by diabetes.
Created in Carl’s memory, it’s a small way to offer encouragement and support as a student takes their next step in education.

01 / Eligibility
Who can apply?
Applicants must meet the following requirements.
01
Graduation
Be graduating in 2027 from a high school within the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education (CBVRCE).

Future Education
Plan to attend a university, college, trade school or another recognized post-secondary training program.

Connection to Diabetes
Have a personal connection to diabetes, whether through their own experience, an immediate family member or another significant direct connection.
Please note: Priority consideration will be given to students who personally live with diabetes, while recognizing the impact it can have on families and loved ones.

There’s no need for a formal essay. We’re interested in your own experiences and what you hope to do next.

How applications are reviewed.
Each application will be considered based on the student’s experiences and personal statement.
Grades are not a consideration. We hope to recognize someone whose values and approach to life reflect the things that mattered to Carl.
A Note About Privacy
No medical documentation required.
Applicants do not need to provide medical records, proof of diagnosis or detailed health information.
Applications will be reviewed privately for scholarship administration and recipient selection. The scholarship will only be awarded to an eligible applicant.
